Thermo King status lights

Read the light in your mirror.

A trailer's status light is mounted where the driver can see it in the tractor mirror. Here's what it's telling you, and when to call your shop.

What the light means.

On a Precedent, the remote alarm light gives two signals.

  • On for 30 seconds at start-up, then off: a log alarm, “a notice to take corrective action before a problem becomes severe.” One example is a maintenance hourmeter time-out. Find the code in the unit's alarm menu and look it up.
  • Flashing on and off: a shutdown alarm. “Shutdown Alarms will force the unit into shutdown,” and the unit stays down until the alarm is manually cleared. Call your shop and read them the code.

Three displays.

Thermo King status light displays come in three options. All three show alarms.

  • A Thermo King Status Only display

    Status Only

    Alarm codes and shutdown alarms.

“Monitor the status of the reefer unit.”

  • A Thermo King Fuel Combo display

    Fuel Combo

Everything Status Only shows, plus the fuel level, with a warning when fuel runs low.

  • A Thermo King Triple Combo display

    Triple Combo

Alarms, the fuel level and the temperature of one to three compartments.

“Monitor temperature, fuel level and status of the reefer unit.”

Add one: a remote status indicator light is an option on every T-90 Series truck unit, and status lights are an option on the Precedent S-750i. Your shop can find the right display and part number, and install it. See parts.

Questions

The light came on at start-up, then went off. Is something wrong?

On a Precedent, that's a log alarm: the remote light stays on for 30 seconds at start-up, then goes off. One example is a maintenance hourmeter time-out. Find the code in the unit's alarm menu and look it up.

The light is flashing. What now?

On a Precedent, that's a shutdown alarm: the unit shuts down and stays down until the alarm is manually cleared. Call your shop and read them the code. Service is 24/7. After hours, your shop's number reaches the on-call team, and mobile service trucks keep running.

Which display do I have?

Status Only shows alarms. Fuel Combo adds the fuel level. Triple Combo adds the temperature of one to three compartments.

Can my shop install a status light?

Yes. Your shop can find the right display and part number, and install it.

Should I write the code down?

Yes. Write down every alarm to help the technician.

Light on? Call TKSE.

Write down the code from the unit's display first.
