Thermo King Heat King 450
Dependable freeze protection for temperature-sensitive cargo.
Why the Heat King 450
Dependable freeze protection
The Heat King keeps transported products above freezing in the coldest conditions.
50,000 BTU/hr on the 450 MAX
At high speed, the 450 MAX delivers 50,000 BTU/hr, the highest capacity of any transport heater available today.
Heat from the exhaust, too
The 450 MAX exhaust heat exchanger extracts even more heat, making it 70% efficient in the transfer of energy from diesel fuel to heat.
Starts when it needs to
Automatic Cycle-Sentry heating restarts the engine to charge the battery and when engine block temperature drops below 30°F.
TracKing telematics built in
Every Heat King comes with complimentary TracKing telematics to track location, unit status, fuel level and load temperature.
Standard solar panel
A ThermoLite 40W solar panel comes standard on all Heat King models to keep batteries charged year-round and reduce load on the engine.

The Heat King 450 is Thermo King’s transport heater for freeze protection, by road or rail. The 450 MAX puts out 50,000 BTU/hr at high speed and the 450 HO 36,000 BTU/hr; both run a TK 2.7 diesel engine on automatic Cycle-Sentry heating.
Keeps loads from freezing.
What Thermo King built into the Heat King 450, for cold runs by road or rail.
Heat from the exhaust, too.
The Heat King 450 MAX uses an exhaust heat exchanger that extracts even more heat from the engine. That makes the unit 70% efficient in the transfer of energy from diesel fuel to heat, and the design produces 33% more heat capacity than the closest competitor product.
- Extra capacity available for longer thin-walled trailers
- Powerful airflow circulates throughout the entire cargo
- High and low speeds for optimal fuel economy
Starts when it needs to.

Automatic Cycle-Sentry heating handles freeze protection. Cycle-sentry start/stop includes battery sentry and block temperature-initiated restart, and the engine restarts to charge the battery and when engine block temperature drops below 30°F.
- Programmable ThermoGuard VII microprocessor controller
- Remote TGVII display
- Heavy duty battery hold-down and tray
Solar and telematics, standard.

A 40-watt ThermoLite solar panel and 24 months of complimentary TracKing telematics come standard on every Heat King. TracKing tracks location, unit status, fuel level, load temperature and many more critical data points. The solar panel’s benefits:
- Increased battery life: keeping batteries charged year-round
- Fuel savings: less load on the engine, with the alternator working less and reduced cycle-sentry operation
- Extended component life: reduced run time, alternator offloading and reduced starter engagement
- Improved employee efficiency: less time spent managing low battery alarms and battery breakdowns
- Optimized telematics: TracKing can operate 24/7 without risk of depleting the battery
Road or rail.
Thermo King built the Heat King for transport by road or rail. It is the highest capacity transport heater available today, with 50,000 BTUs, and it is DOT-approved for transport of flammable liquids and gases. For refrigerated rail, see the rail units.

Questions
About the Heat King 450. Anything else, call your shop.
How much heat does the Heat King 450 put out?
The 450 MAX puts out 50,000 BTU/hr at high speed and 10,000 BTU/hr at low speed. The 450 HO puts out 36,000 BTU/hr at high speed and 10,000 BTU/hr at low speed.
What’s the difference between the 450 MAX and the 450 HO?
The 450 MAX uses an exhaust heat exchanger that extracts even more heat from the engine. The MAX runs 3,200 RPM at high speed against 3,050 for the HO, moves 3,600 CFM against 3,400, and weighs about 488 lbs against 448 lbs, with battery.
