3rd Generation TriPac
The 3rd generation TriPac diesel APU provides the same comfort and performance customers expect from Thermo King but now includes TracKing® Telematics and new emission reduction technology.
Why the 3rd Gen TriPac
About 75% less fuel
Uses approximately 75% less fuel per hour than idling the tractor engine, saving about 2,500 gallons a year (individual results may vary).
Year-round climate control
It cools at 13,000 BTU/hr (80°F box, 50% humidity, 95°F ambient) and heats at 7,500 BTU/hr, or 13,600 with the optional high-output heater.
TracKing telematics
TracKing tracks APU run hours and cabin temperatures, and automates fuel tax reporting.
Fewer tractor engine hours
Offloading engine hours to the TriPac saves engine wear, reduces maintenance frequency and helps a fleet retain more of its resale value.
A 50-state compliant model
The aftertreatment device model is a 50-state compliant solution for CARB and EPA Tier 4 on new OEM or aftermarket installs.
Four years on major components
The standard warranty is four years on major components and two years bumper to bumper, with full details in the warranty documentation.

Rest without idling.
What Thermo King built into the 3rd Generation TriPac, and what it means at the truck stop.
Less fuel at rest.
A TriPac APU consumes approximately 75% less fuel per hour than idling the tractor engine. That's about 2,500 gallons a year, or 10,000 gallons over the typical length of tractor ownership.
- Eliminates unnecessary engine idling, saving engine wear and reducing maintenance frequency
- Offloading engine hours to the TriPac helps a fleet retain more of its resale value
Based on actual customer experiences. Individual results may vary.
Telematics, standard.

TracKing telematics comes standard on the 3rd Generation TriPac, complimentary for the first 24 months. It shows APU run hours and cabin temperatures, and it automates fuel tax reporting.
- Real-time alarm notifications and maintenance reminders
- Over-the-air software updates download new capabilities and bug fixes
- Runtime reports by state, weekly, monthly or annually, for fuel tax reporting
Built for all 50 states.
Choose the model with the passive aftertreatment device (ATD) for a 50-state solution, compliant for CARB and EPA Tier 4 on new OEM or aftermarket installs. Thermo King eliminated the dash switch, and its new metal mesh technology regenerates in as little as eight minutes.
- Standard model: a 49-state EPA Tier 4 compliant solution for aftermarket installs
- Aftertreatment device model: a 50-state solution, compliant with CARB and EPA Tier 4, for new OEM or aftermarket installs

The controller has an enhanced color digital display with tactile push buttons and plain language readouts. Large cabin temperature readings, function icons and toggling menus give drivers more control over their comfort and the APU.
Built to last longer.
Thermo King doubled the standard warranty for major components to four years and extended bumper-to-bumper coverage to two years. It also streamlined wire harnesses, connectors, fusing and routing for serviceability and reliability, and reduced the estimated total cost of ownership by 25% compared with the prior model.
See Thermo King's warranty documentation for full details.

Questions
About the 3rd Generation TriPac. Anything else, call your shop.
Which TriPac model do I need for California?
The aftertreatment device (ATD) model. It is a 50-state compliant solution for CARB and EPA Tier 4, for new OEM or aftermarket installs. The standard model is a 49-state EPA Tier 4 solution for aftermarket installs.
How much fuel does a TriPac save?
Approximately 75% less fuel per hour than idling the tractor engine, about 2,500 gallons a year. That's based on actual customer experiences, and individual results may vary.
Is telematics included?
Yes. TracKing comes standard, complimentary for the first 24 months. After two years, fleets can decide whether to continue with a paid TracKing subscription.
How much heat does it put out?
7,500 BTU/hr from the standard heater, or 13,600 BTU/hr with the optional high-output heater. An Arctic Package is available for cold weather starting.
Can it run my appliances?
The TriPac has plenty of capacity to power appliances and charge devices. It has a 120-amp alternator, and a 2,000-watt pure sine wave inverter is an option.
How often does it need service?
Change the oil every 2,000 hours with a Thermo King brand oil filter and CK-4 or better oil, or every 500 hours with any other brand of filter and CI-4 or better oil. Engine valve adjustment is due at 1,500 hours. An authorized Thermo King dealer should do the work.
What's the warranty?
Thermo King doubled the standard major-component warranty to four years and bumper-to-bumper coverage to two years; its warranty documentation sets the terms. Thermo King's Extended Warranty also covers the 3rd Generation TriPac Diesel APU, with full-unit and major-component options.
Who installs and services it?
TKSE's factory-trained technicians. APU installation and preventive maintenance are on TKSE's service menu. See APU service.
