The T-890 and T-890 MAX are self-powered, diesel refrigeration units for straight trucks, two of the eight models in Thermo King's T-90 Series. Both mount on the front of the cargo box. MAX adds larger coils and heat exchangers, optimized compressor and engine speeds, and a sound-reduction kit.

Sized for straight trucks.

What Thermo King built into the T-90 Series, from the coils to the controller.

More capacity.

Thermo King redesigned the coils and the engine management for the T-90 Series, for up to 35 percent more capacity. The T-890 and T-890 MAX run the X-430 reciprocating compressor, which Thermo King designs and builds.

  • The T-890 MAX adds larger coils and heat exchangers, optimized compressor and engine speeds, and a sound-reduction kit
  • Faster pull-down, faster recovery after door openings, less fuel burned and fewer engine run hours

2,000 hours between services.

The maintenance interval for the T-890 and T-890 MAX is 2,000 hours, the longest in the industry. Longer intervals cut downtime and costs.

Plug in when you're parked.

With the SmartPower electric standby option, the unit runs on electric power while the truck is stationary. That saves fuel, reduces engine wear and decreases emissions. It can cut fuel costs by up to 75%.

  • SmartPower in 230V and 460V versions
  • Standby motor rated 9 hp
  • Electric heat, on SmartPower units only

Faster to temperature.

The T-90's controller uses Thermo King's QuickTemp technology. In laboratory application tests against the competition, T-90 units pulled down and recovered up to 30 percent faster, used up to 35 percent less fuel and ran the engine up to 25 percent less.

A controller made for drivers.

The premium HMI is standard on every T-90, and Thermo King telematics hardware comes built in.

Built for the road.

Which T-90 unit fits my truck?

The box-size guide matches units to box length and load temperature. At 35°F it suggests the T-590 for boxes from 14 to 24 feet and the T-890 for 26 and 28 feet. At -20°F it runs from the T-690 for a 14-foot box to the T-1090 for a 28-foot box. Your shop can size a unit for your route.

What does MAX add?

Larger coils and heat exchangers, optimized compressor and engine speeds, and a sound-reduction kit. At 35°F on engine power the T-890 MAX is rated at 27,000 BTU/hr, against 25,000 for the T-890.

Can it run on shore power?

Yes, with the SmartPower electric standby option, in 230V and 460V versions. On electric power at 35°F, the T-890 is rated at 21,000 BTU/hr and the T-890 MAX at 22,500.

How often does it need service?

The maintenance interval for the T-890 and T-890 MAX is 2,000 hours.

Is there a multi-temp T-90?

Yes, the T-1090 Spectrum. It uses remote evaporators in up to three individual compartments.

What refrigerant does it use?

R-452A. Thermo King made R452A standard on its North American single and multi-temperature truck units starting December 2022.

Does Thermo King's Extended Warranty cover it?

Thermo King's Extended Warranty covers the T-90 Diesel Truck Series, with full-unit and major-component options. Ask your shop for the terms.
