Keeping Your Reefer Trailer in Top Condition

Regular maintenance of your reefer trailer is essential for safely transporting temperature-sensitive items like food and pharmaceuticals. These tips from Thermo King of the Southeast will help keep your reefer in top working condition.

Refuel regularly

Your reefer trailer uses a significant amount of fuel, and you can't afford to run out. Top off the fuel tank regularly to prevent unexpected delays and product loss.

Conduct pre-trip checks

Inspect your reefer trailer thoroughly before each drive. The inspection should include:

  • Examining the compressor for any signs of oil leaks.
  • Testing the temperature control system.
  • Checking the tire pressure and the overall condition of your tires.
  • Checking for clogs in the drainage system.
  • Checking for any punctures in the air ducts or trailer walls.

Get professional maintenance

Even the best-maintained reefer trailer can benefit from occasional service by a qualified mechanic. Schedule at least one inspection a year with a service center, and don't hesitate to ask a mechanic for advice if you run into a maintenance problem.
