A proper inspection keeps your trailer safe and helps it last longer. Work through these steps to inspect your trailer thoroughly. Following a checklist means you won't miss anything important.

Step 1: Check the tires and wheels

Tires come first in trailer safety. Check the tread depth and tire pressure, and make sure the wheel lug nuts are properly tightened.

Step 2: Inspect the lights and electrical system

Make sure every light on the trailer works, including the brake lights, tail lights and turn signals. Check the wiring and connections for damage too.

Step 3: Check the kingpin and fifth wheel

Look for wear on the kingpin and the upper coupler, and make sure the fifth-wheel jaws lock fully around the kingpin.

Step 4: Check the brakes

Make sure the brake system works properly. It's paramount for safety on the road.

Step 5: Inspect the body and exterior

Look for damage to the floorboards, sides or roof that could affect the trailer's performance or safety.

Regular inspections keep your trailer in top shape, so it lasts longer and keeps you safe on the road.
